What's a House Concert Fundraiser?

It's an intimate Benefit Concert or Dinner Show for 40 - 75 of your friends and neighbors, in the comfort of your home. A wonderful way to hear acoustic music performers, have a different kind of fun event, and raise $1,000 - $4,00, all at the same time! It's already happening all over the United States. To check out how others are hosting house concerts in Colorado and nationally, please visit: www.houseconcerts.com.

How can I Host a House Concert?

It's not so hard! Smokey will provide you with flyers, posters, postcards, photos and press releases, plus a House Concert Host's Checklist covering all the basics for organizing and publicizing a successful event. (Please click on "Publicity")

Once your date, time and location are set, determine how many folks you can comfortably fit into your living room. Decide if this is to be a "Family Western Fun Raiser," or for adults only. Set your ticket price: $20 (concert only) to $50+ for dinner and show. Consider using a caterer. You may need to rent folding chairs (or borrow them from a church). Try to keep it simple and fun!

A publicity plan is essential for maximizing your attendance. Organize a phone tree to contact your guest list, or to follow up your flyer mailing or e-mails. Perhaps your church, school or nonprofit group can supply you with a good mailing/e-mail list. Enroll others in your group to sell tickets: church office, etc.

If you decide to open your concert to the public, maintain security by giving out only your phone and e-mail contact info, so you can take reservations and make a list of everyone attending, before you give out your street address.

The night of the show, have refreshments ready. Welcome your guests as they arrive and collect their ticket or cover charge. Introduce the performer and let your audience know this is a "listening concert" - socializing will be at intermission and after the show.

Encourage everyone to invest in the CD's and books, explaining that half of their purchases will go towards the project or group goal you have chosen. Why not set a dollar goal you want to reach that night? At the end of the night, thank your guests for coming and supporting your cause.
